A week till Christmas – 6 days to go – Traditions – Christmas Jammies
Written by Uilleam Mac Gafraidh
This article is written with nostalgia as I was reminded of this by looking through an article that was written by my Mother in law (Valeri) in the special Christmas section that the local weekly paper did last year, where she spoke on the same subject as I am about to.
You see, there are some traditions that you do in the holiday season that you have done since you were a child, and there are some others that you have inherited when you get married, sometimes it is something that your spouse did from a child and some are new traditions that you want to start together as you start your new life together.
The one I refer to today is one that came from Chelsea’s childhood and that was the practice of “Christmas Jammies”. Basically all that is involved is that you get pyjamas for all the members of your immediate family and unwrap them the night before Christmas Day (Christmas Eve) this is not to replace a Christmas present but to just give that wee bit extra. This is something we have done when we have celebrated Christmas in both the USA and Scotland.
This year my parents will be with us for Christmas, (they are flying over St. Louis as we speak) so they will experience Christmas Jammies for the first time, they have already been bought and placed under the tree. In addition to ourselves, Tabi and my parents, my Mother in law will be present to get her “Jammies” (We elected not to get the dogs Jammies)
So in many ways we have my Mother in law to thank for this little tradition, she did it with Chelsea before me, and we hope that this little tradition will carry on to Tabi when she gets older also!
It is just a wee fun way to show love to one another, do you have any wee traditions that are uniquely yours that you wouldn’t mind sharing? Feel free to post them below.
God bless
