The greatest love story I have ever written (and it is true!)

Chelsea and Uilleam, Cambria

The greatest love story I have ever written (and it is true!)

This is the story of Uilleam and Chelsea Mac Gafraidh. This is a true story based on actual events! It will also give you a chance to see us in perhaps a different light!

Uilleam and Chelsea Mac Gafraidh met on a Christian website called Christian Mingle. They met in 2004 and Uilleam has no idea what he was doing on a Christian website. He was in a very bad place at that point in his life.

Uilleam had just gone through some bad break ups, most of them caused by his doing. When he met Chelsea he was self centred, opinionated and very self willed. (To be honest I have no idea what Chelsea saw in him!)

Uilleam and Chelsea’s early days were certainly interesting as Uilleam was going through the motions as a Christian. Sometimes not even that! Uilleam had 2 Gods other than the living one. He had association football (soccer) and alcohol.

During the relationship with Chelsea, Uilleam started to go back to church; he started to attend Calvary Chapel in Glasgow. He soon re-committed his life to Jesus Christ and soon became a part of Calvary Chapel Glasgow, both as part of the church family but a willing volunteer in the community. He also did a discipleship course with Pastor Matt to set him off on the right path.

I am getting ahead of myself with some of this stuff; the story begins with Uilleam being fairly messed up and Chelsea basically rescuing him from some stuff that he was too deep into.

Chelsea and Uilleam met in both Scotland and the USA and dated for some time before Uilleam won a trip to New York for 2 for St Pats Day in 2005. Now Uilleam was still drinking at this point but he decided to stay sober on March 18th 2005 as he had a rather important question to ask Chelsea.

Yup, you guessed it! He asked Chelsea to marry him on top of the Empire State building in New York. He had often enjoyed the film Sleepless in Seattle and he thought this would be a sweet and romantic way of proposing.

Uilleam and Chelsea wasted no time in planning a wedding. They had two! In order to get a visa for Chelsea to come to the UK, they got married on the 23rd August 2005 in from of a few of Chelsea’s family.

Uilleam’s life was changed upon his conversion to Christianity. He no longer drank alcohol and he started looking after others rather than helping himself. He became the kind of man that he should have been in the first place.

Uilleam and Chelsea got married for the second time in their big wedding on the 26th November 2005. This was done in the Lighthouse Chapel in Springville, CA and was a wonderful occasion. Uilleam even got Chelsea’s male relations to wear full highland dress.

Uilleam and Chelsea have had a very happy marriage and it is down to a great deal of love and even more of God’s grace. Both Mac Gafraidh’s could fill you in on how many mistakes that either of them made prior to marriage, but after they got married they dedicated this union to God.

Now Chelsea supports Uilleam in his Bible teaching and she is a help meet in every sense of the word. She is his support and his rock on which he leans! Anyone who knows them knows that there is a whole lot of love in the Mac Gafraidh household.

To Uilleam, Chelsea is his best friend, life partner and love of his life. Uilleam certainly believes that Chelsea was heaven sent direct from God and he see’s no-one finer than she is.

Uilleam dedicated the Proclaimers song “Sunshine on Leith” to Chelsea as when he met her, he really was like this. God took the ashes of Uilleam’s life at that point, and he fell in love, a deep love that they have proclaimed to the entire world and to God. To quite literally “death do them part”

Sunshine on Leith has the following lyrics:

My heart was broken, my heart was broken
Sorrow sorrow sorrow sorrow

My heart was broken, my heart was broken

You saw it, you claimed it
You touched it, you saved it

My tears are drying, my tears are drying
Thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou

My tears are drying, my tears are drying

Your beauty and kindness
Made tears clear my blindness

While Im worth my room on this earth
I will be with you
While the chief, puts sunshine on leith
Ill thank him for his work
And your birth and my birth

May God bless you and I hope that reading this has been a blessing to you
